SOURCING & QUALITY

Direct from the Quarry to Your Home

Most stone dealers buy from middlemen. KJM Stones doesn’t. We source directly from trusted quarries in India, Brazil, and beyond – cutting out two layers of markup and delivering museum-quality stone at wholesale prices.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why Direct-Import Stone is Different

When you buy stone from a typical retailer, that slab has changed hands 3–4 times. Each step adds markup — and each middleman makes decisions about quality control you can’t see. By the time it reaches your home, you’ve paid for everyone’s margin.

At KJM Stones, we travel to quarries in Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Minas Gerais. We select each block ourselves. We know the quarry owners by name. That’s how we guarantee quality — and how we keep prices honest.

Our Stone Sourcing and Quality Commitment

Stone sourcing and quality are the foundation of everything KJM Stones does. Rather than buying pre-selected pallets from distributors, we travel to quarry regions and choose blocks and slabs ourselves. This hands-on approach to stone sourcing and quality means we can reject material that fails our standards long before it ever reaches a customer’s project.

From quarry to showroom. Our natural stone comes from established quarry regions in India and Brazil, including Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Minas Gerais. By working directly with quarry partners, we shorten the supply chain, protect margins for our customers, and keep full visibility into where each slab originated.

Why grading matters. Natural stone is a product of geology, so no two blocks are identical. We evaluate each slab for color consistency, veining, fissures, and structural soundness, and we grade accordingly. Understanding how dimension stone is quarried and finished helps explain why grading is central to any serious conversation about stone sourcing and quality. You can read more about how quarried stone is classified on the dimension stone reference page.

Questions to ask any stone supplier. Before you buy, ask where the stone was quarried, whether the supplier inspects slabs in person, and what grade you are actually purchasing. A supplier who is confident in their stone sourcing and quality process will answer these questions clearly and let you inspect full slabs yourself. That transparency is exactly what we aim to provide at our Buda, Texas showroom.

STONE GRADING

Understanding Stone Grades: A, B, and Commercial

Premium

Grade A

The best slabs from the quarry. Consistent colour, tight veining, no fissures or repairs. This is what KJM sources for residential projects.

KJM Standard ✓

Commercial

Grade B

Good quality but may have slight colour variation, minor fissures (filled with epoxy), or a less-desirable block position. Used in commercial projects where consistency matters less.

AVAILABLE ON REQUEST

Budget

Commercial Grade

Highly variable colour, visible repairs, and reduced structural integrity. Typically sold at big-box stores. Not recommended for premium residential use.
